John and Alistair meet again after 50 years

Two former apprentice engineers meet up in Bowling after 50 years

John Gallagher and Alistair Baird meet after 50 years, thanks to the Scott's of Bowling Website.

Having been in touch by e-mail  for some months, John and Alistair finally met at Bowling Railway Station on Saturday 4th August 2012.  While the meeting provided a chance to catch up on what had happened in the intervening years, it had an added purpose.  Alistair had been in touch with the local papers with a view to getting some much needed publicity for the project.  The day began with a meeting  with the photographer in the yard, and continued with the distribution of posters in the local pubs and finished with a visit to the Bay Inn.

The Bay Inn Bowling

Thanks go to Iain McLean of the Bay Inn for his hospitality and for sharing his knowledge of the yard and of the people who worked there. The Bay Inn has a wonderful collection of photographs, which includes pictures of the yard and people who worked there, going back many years.   Well worth a visit if you are in the area.

This is a picture of a wooden model of the SS Kenelworth, which Iain has in storage until some repairs are carried out.  The Kenelworth, Yard No. 55 was built as a Fish Carrier for Wm McLachlan in 1885.
